Earn Your Stripes: How To Wear This Seasons Biggest Trend
In our humble opinion, summer dressing and stripes are synonymous. There’s just something about the horizontal line pattern that signals warm weather, the beach, and summer time. There are of course several forms of the striped summer shirt. Most notably the Breton—which always suggest a nautical influence—but there are plenty of adaptations to explore. Below are three examples of the striped shirt and a few tips on how to wear them.
01: Strike A Balance
As a starting point for wearing stripes, simply treat them like you would a pop of color; pair them with neutral summer weight trousers and your favorite jacket. Keep things simple by layering under solids, to find the perfect balance and above all lighten the graphic impact of louder patterns.
02: Simple Accompaniments
When you’re fielding stripes and patterns in general, you want to keep the rest of the outfit pretty simple. Which doesn’t mean you still can’t be stylish. For elevated and sleek style, try teaming your stripes with grey, black, or blue tailoring, keeping the pairing monochromatic. Complete the outfit with a clean pair of sneakers, and your favorite accessories. Try starting with our curated selection of Maxx and Unicorn accessories and Saucony shoes for proper add-ons.
03: Classics Never Fail
Finally, never forget the classic. The Breton stripe is and always will be a go-to menswear staple. Mr. James Dean is the man behind popularizing the distinctive yet cool pattern, and coincidentally usually donned Breton stripes in the sun. We suggest avoiding the khakis so you’re not completely draped in the sailor persona. Try wearing yours with more modern pieces like tailored sweats for a breezy twist on a classic.
