The Official Summer Hack to Eating Well on a Budget
The weather is hotter, the clothes are smaller, and we spend most of the workweek dreaming of our next beach getaway. While the working out portion is important and completely on you (sorry), we decided to help out a bit and put together a little cheat sheet to eating healthy in NYC. Because let’s face it, eating in New York is already expensive, but eating healthy can feel like spending a small fortune.

The poke trend is hot right now, which is exactly why you need to be grabbing lunch at Poketeria. Not only does Poketeria’s menu consist of rice bowls and burritos, but they deliver protein-dense nutrition’s that taste just like summer. The traditional poke concept is expanded into salmon, tuna, chicken, and tofu, making it an appealing choice for pretty much anyone.
The Butchers Daughter
The Butcher’s Daughter is all about treating their veggies like you treat meat. They chop ‘em, carve ‘em, and grill ‘em into healthy vegetarian dishes that you can’t help but fall in love with. This Nolita neighborhood staple has friendly vibes and delivers wholesome dishes in perfect unison. Not to mention that the décor is perfect for a warm, summer evening date that won’t break the bank.

Any Salad Bar
Hear us out, salad bars can get crazy expensive. But, if you’re smart and know how to order you can slip out with a tasty health boost. Most salad bars charge by the pound, so start with NOT grabbing the biggest container. The larger the plate, the more you spend. Go heavy on the greens (we suggest kale or spinach for the biggest nutritional punch) and choose your protein wisely. Avoid heavy fruits and tomatoes and anything steamed (water weight is the enemy). Finally, it is a salad, probably not something we’re craving, so do add a few novelty items. Nuts and sun dried tomatoes blend well with pretty much anything.
Anywhere with a salad bar.
