The Albums We Want To Hear In 2018

While some artists are following music industry protocol and announcing release dates, it seems the element of surprise is the way to release an album nowadays. Like most years, 2018 looks like a promising one for new tunes. Here are our top picks of albums we can’t wait (or hope) to hear.

Frank Ocean

If you follow Frank on what seems like his main channel of communication, Tumblr, you know he’s vowed “five albums before 30.” Well, he turned 30 last year without releasing a 5^th album following back to back Endless and Blonde releases. His reasoning? “Well I made the album before 30, I just ain’t put that bitch out!” So where’s it at Frank? Here’s to hoping he releases it in 2018

Jay-z / Beyonce

All throughout 2017 rumors were swirling that arguably the biggest couple in music and in entertainment were recording a joint album. Now after the release of their solo albums 4:44 and Lemonade, Jay-z confirmed that he and Bey were indeed recording music together. Now if the world ever gets to hear it is a totally different question.

Migos

ATL’s reigning rap trio and leader of airwaves are reportedly releasing their sequel to last year’s album Culture at the top of the year. Their next project, appropriately titled, Culture II is dropping shortly, and the first single Motorsport featuring Cardi and Nicki has already taken off nationwide. The new project drops 01/26, so be sure to check it out.

NoName

NoName has been on the rise alongside a host of other native Chicago rappers. As her name suggests, she’s known for maintaining a degree of anonymity, but her startlingly original debut mixtape Telefone pushed her to the forefront of upcoming rappers. Though she announced last July that Room 25 would be the name of her next project, it still has no firm release date.

Childish Gambino

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino recently hinted that he’s been working on new music, after being heavily inspired while living in the UK for the past year. After releasing 2016’s Awaken, My Love! He’s taken a step back from music focusing on the big screens – he’s set to appear in the upcoming blockbuster Solo: A Star Wars Story and his acclaimed TV series Atlanta comes back March 1. We’ll see if he still has time for music.

Bjork (live edition)

Keeping to tradition, Bjork has long released live albums to pair with her studio albums dating back to her album Debut. Her latest album Utopia will be no different: She recently announced a live version will be out this spring.
