Fall Cocktails at Dante

caffedante4

As the seasons change, so should your selections of liqueurs and cocktails. Depending on the occasion, details such as proportions and ingredients can become a hassle, so we got in touch with our friend, Marlo Gamora, bartender at Dante in Greenwich Village, NYC to fix us a few drinks.

Dante has been a downtown staple for many years, first opening in 1915, and then changing ownership to the Flotta family in 1971. For the next 40 years, Dante continued to be a neighborhood favorite, serving noteworthy NYC denizens like Bob Dylan, Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, and Patti Smith. Dante changed ownership once again in 2015 to a NY-based, Australian family, and we’re happy to report that its time-honored traditions of quality and hospitality remained the same.

For FW16, the cocktail program at Dante is quite impressive. Our bartender, Marlo offered us 3 stellar choices for autumnal drinking. Read on below to see his suggestions.

Al Fresco Spritz

Suggested Occasion: Early Evening Shindig

A refreshing taste with just the right amount of alcohol to get the night started. Make a full pitcher’s worth, so there’s more than enough to go around.

Port Cobbler

Suggested Occasion: Date night

Port, Scotch and seasonal berries combine seamlessly for a gorgeous, well-balanced drink. Honestly, this is one of those rare cocktails that tastes as good as it looks.

1.5 oz. Fonseca LBV Port

1/4 oz. Monkey Shoulder Scotch

1/4 oz. Pierre Ferrand Orange Curacao

1/4 oz. Luxardo Maraschino

1 tsp. Marmalade

5 dashes Peychaud’s bitters

1 dash of Dale de Groff’s pimento bitters

1 tsp. Lemon juice

Method: Shake. Strain over crushed ice. Serve with a straw

Glass: Footed Highball

Boulvardier

Suggested Occasion: Anytime

The colder weather symbolizes the beginning of Negroni season. This Fall, Dante is offering a tasty Boulvardier, with Bourbon replacing the customary Gin in the liquor trifecta. Pro Tip: Pack it in a flask and take it to go.
