An Ode To NYC: Mougabé Saint Louis
We are a Gotham-based brand, and as such, we love to champion our own. Today, we’d like to introduce you to a young, upcoming artist/photographer by the name of Mougabé Saint Louis. Interesting tidbit here; for a while, he actually used to be part of the Onassis Soho crew. But these days, he is spreading his wings and unveiling his full potential. To date, he has been involved in projects with Agenda & Milk Studios, and he’s presently shooting a collaborative t-shirt series with a progressive brand called DIEM. Throughout his work, the one common denominator is the authentic NYC attitude and energy that influences his creativity. Below, we delve a little deeper into the relationship between an artist and the city he represents.
Your most memorable childhood moment in NYC?
I can never pinpoint a specific event because growing up in NYC, everyday is an adventure that was better than the last. Right now, I’m more concerned with the memories of today and dreams of tomorrow.
Favorite NYC stomping grounds?
Brooklyn by far, not only is it home, but a hub for convenience & creatives. I’ve grown up to see Brooklyn transform into a completely new world. It’s the new Manhattan.
Spot in NYC where you draw the most inspiration?
Flatbush, LES/Washington Heights – they hold the perfect balance of New York’s past and present.
Favorite NYC Artist of All time?
Jamel Shabazz, he influences my love for photography the most.
Favorite NYC Musician of All Time?
Biggie Smalls.
Being that you’re a photographer, what’s your favorite place in NYC to shoot?
I don’t have a specific area in NYC I like to shoot – that puts too much restrictions on my creative drive. I need to explore this city/the states/the world.
Most fashionable area in NYC for seeing authentic style?
Everywhere in NYC has authentic style. The diversity in our dress code down to our body language and slang, our reputation is world renowned.
Favorite place to party and have a good time?
For me, it’s not where I party, but who I party with.
Favorite spot to kick back and chill with friends?
Nowhere in particular, New York is our playground, we have fun wherever we go.
What is it to you about NYC that makes it so unique from every other city in the world?
There is no formality of character in New York, everyone’s an individual, everything is so colorful, living here is a true experience.
Where do you envision your artistic/creative evolution going in the next 5 years?
Passing down knowledge, investing in life & love, traveling the world, not giving a fuck about conforming, evolving as a man before an artist, publishing books, creating new art through my children.
