O.N.S Style Guide: Spring/Summer Basics 101

Basics

Spring is officially here, and April is just around the corner. It’s the month of fresh starts and new beginnings, and therefore a good time to re-stock on your basics. Your first step on basics is to invest in pieces that are simple, comfortable, and versatile. Think of them as the cornerstones of your closet. Below, we’ve laid out 6 pieces that are a must-have for the Spring/Summer season.

Basics-3

Smart and lightweight options are the ideal choices when temps are on the rise, and Henleys are a valuable long sleeve option. They’re perfect for transitioning out of chunky sweaters and flannels, and can double as a lightweight layering piece. We suggest teaming yours with a chino and leaving the buttons open for extra breezy vibes. Ours comes with the classic 3-button placket, and we’ve used a soft slub fabric that’s reminiscent of the athletic wear of the 40s and 50s.

Basics-4

We like to think of the Oxford shirt as the ultimate sartorial trick. The reason being their versatility, timeless appeal, and they are almost impossible to screw up. Meaning the shirt looks great tucked, un-tucked, pressed, or even wrinkled. Think of it as your safety net for when you’re too tired (read as hungover) to care, but you still need to look presentable. It’s easy to style too, whether you wear it on its own with denim, or throw it under a blazer.

Basics-5

Up until recently sweatpants were restricted to athletic gear, but with athleisure style popping up both on the runway and on the street for the past few years, the Jogger has become a modern classic. It’s important to note that fit is important as you want joggers to fit more like trousers, giving you the option to dress them up or keep things casual.

Basics-6

Chinos really come into play in the summer, as the go-to warm-weather alternative to jeans. They’re incredibly versatile of course, making it easy to create an Ivy League look with a blazer and button down, or they’ll lend a breezy casual air when paired with a simple t-shirt. In short, chinos are timely, but absolutely timeless.

Arguably, the most important and most comfortable garment for the summer are shorts. Why? Because they bring on a state of both physical and mental relaxation. Think about it, the very thought of shorts can bring a smile to any guy’s face because of their association with barbecues, holidays, and well-earned vacation time. All that being said, the Dobby Slim Short is the perfect not-too-long-not-too-short option for all your warm weather occasions.
