Behind The Scenes: O.N.S Art Director, Christopher Tuyay, Repurposing Textiles For The SS21 Campaign

ONS SS21 Campaign and ONS 201 Mulberry NYC flagship using Upcycled materials from FabScrap.

At O.N.S, we believe implementing sustainable practices is an ongoing task resulting in an array of small efforts through different business areas. One approach we take when thinking about sustainability is asking ourselves how to use (and re-use) available resources more efficiently and responsibly? This mindset challenges us to become more creative and conscious of even the smallest actions.

With that in mind, for the SS21 Campaign, our Art Director, Christopher Tuyay, decided to source fabric leftovers from Fabscrap to be upcycled as backdrops in the campaign studio set.

If you are not familiar with Fabscrap, they are an NYC-based organization that collects unwanted textiles from designers, making them available for post-consumption use, including students, artists, and teachers, amongst others.

Following our approach to sustainability of using available resources, Christopher, worked with the Retail team to repurpose the upcycled backdrops as part of the window display decor at the 201 Mulberry St flagship.

It doesn’t end here…

Implementing zero-waste practices to further the life of the fabrics, Christopher is repurposing additional leftovers to sew patchwork tapestries as part of an initiative for his art project, Cool Cool Planet. If you haven’t seen his amazing work with upcycling materials, we recommend checking out Cool Cool Planet and learn about some of his approaches to creating aesthetically pleasing zero-waste living.
