Couples Doing Things – Sofie Pavitt + Nam Nguyen
Sofie and Nam are the power couple that couples aspire to be one day, mainly because they are genuine and passionate about what they do.
Sofie has impeccable skin with reason and so does Nam! She is a licensed esthetician and the founder of her skincare studio located in downtown New York. Originally from a fashion accessories background before switching it up to beauty, she set out to break down the barriers of the mystiques of skincare with a highly personable and empowering relationship with her clients. Nam works for Giphy, you may have seen some loopy stuff from Giphy hanging around on either Instagram or imessage when you’re trying to express your feelings with a funny GIF. Nam is also the founder of Brain Dings, an all-natural CBD brand that works with an organic hemp farm in La Junta, Colorado and we have to mention the bright graphic packaging is pretty cool too. Brain Dings and Sofie have recently collaborated on a CBD sheet face mask just for fun and for the sake of glowing skin! Let’s not forget they’re proud parents to baby Nico and their 2 dogs, Cremy and Pubby and we get to visit the whole family in their home before they go on a family outing to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
- Tell us a little about how you both met?
Both: We met in a bar at a friend’s birthday party and started chatting but kept it casual!
SF: Then a few weeks later we ran into each after I was leaving a karaoke party outside of POPEYES and Nam is there, carrying like two bags of fried chicken for himself. I knew he was the one then.
- What do you typically like to do for Valentine’s day?
SF: I like to think of Valentine’s Day as my second birthday so I like to receive something nice.
SF: Also in New York, Valentine’s Day usually falls around the same time as Westminster dog show so we like to spend that special day surrounded by champions. This year might be a little different with our new 6-month-old roommate
Nico: If we’re lucky we’ll be in bed by 9pm.
- Do you do gifts or no gifts?
S+N: We do a book each Valentine’s Day of the previous years pics in review. NOBODY ELSE FEATURES IN THE BOOK. Just us and our dogs which is kind of insane really. Now I guess Nico can be in it too.
- You both work in the creative field, does being in a relationship with another creative help with keeping your creative energy levels up?
S+N: Yes for sure- and we’re both creative in different ways. Also working on really different things is great because I might see something Nam is working on that can be implemented in my stuff and vice versa. Being in different spaces makes it easy for us to complement each other’s stuff. We both have had such different career backgrounds we both learn so much from each other. We’ve recently collaborated on a CBD Face mask (Brain Dings x Sofie Pavitt) which was a fun crossover project.
- How do you keep work/home separate? Do you try to set boundaries to keep an even balance between both?
S+N: Sunday’s we don’t work on anything and have a family day. We’ve gotten good at scheduling individual work sessions if we need some alone time to get projects done- life is really scheduled now we have Nico and as soon as that guy hits the sack we are like okay, we have two hours to slam as much work as possible before we pass out lol.
- If you are not working or working on a project, what do you typically like to do together for downtime?
S+N: If you didn’t realize already we spend a lot of time with our dogs in the park. We got unhealthily obsessed with rummikub for a while too! There’s nothing that brings us more joy than going to a really good grocery store, they opened a new one in Clinton hill and you’d think it was Christmas. We’re into TikTok right now and watch it before bed like losers to keep up with the kids! We’re both old.
