…Because we have the best stuff to do all summer long
New York City likes to think of itself as the center of the universe. And though residents of cities like Tokyo and London may beg to differ, there’s no arguing that NYC has a lot going on. And that’s never more true than during the summer, when harsh winter weather gives way to long, warm days that are perfect for all manner of activities, from parades to parties, outdoor concerts to top notch sporting events. In the name of service, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite summer-in-the-city events. And to ensure readers enjoy these activities to the fullest, we’ve also gathered up a selection of our finest camp collar shirts, pairing them with other items to create top notch summer outfits.
New York is one of the homes of the modern gay pride movement and that history of resistance is the reason June is now the worldwide “Pride Month.” That’s because on the last Saturday of June 1969 patrons of New York gay bar the Stonewall Inn rose up against a police raid, sparking the Stonewall Riots and kicking off the contemporary gay pride movement. To commemorate those events, New York activists suggested holding Pride Marches yearly in June, with the first such events occurring in 1970 in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. To this day, New York hosts the second biggest Pride event in the world, after Sao Paulo. This year, tennis legend and LGBTQ activist Billie Jean King will act as the Grand Marshall, as the parade winds down from Chelsea to the West Village before turning up Fifth Avenue to end at 29th Street. Like Pride, this Mike Perry camp collar shirt ensemble with matching shorts is energetic and fun, with meaningful undercurrents that become apparent the longer you look at it. Enjoy!
4th of July
While America may be in a uniquely troubling political situation at the moment, The 4th of July still stands out as a time to remember, celebrate, and stand up for the best of American ideals, like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the peaceful melding of cultures from around the world. And, if we’re being totally honest, it’s also a great time for a summer party. There’s no better place to check out 4th of July fireworks than NYC, where barges post up on the East River to blast pyrotechnics into the night sky. From Queens and Brooklyn, these fireworks are set off by the world-class backdrop that is the Manhattan skyline. But July’s not the coolest month on the calendar, and to enjoy all that excitement properly you’re going to need a comfortably breezy outfit. Enter our linen camp collar Rockaway shirt, which, when paired with a tee and trunks is about as cool can be, both literally and figuratively. Post up on your building’s roof and enjoy!
