One Nice Summer Series: How To Plan A Zero Waste Picnic And Support Your Local Shops
As many get ready to fly away and enjoy a much-needed Summer vacation, others choose to stay local and enjoy a much-deserved relaxing staycation. Whatever you decide to do this Summer, we can all agree we all need time to disconnect from technology, connect with friends, with nature, and with our community.
Because of this, for our One Nice Summer series, our O.N.S Team decided to go on a picnic and suggest simple ideas to disconnect from our phones and computers, connect with friends, and support our local community
#1 Grab your reusable bags and go shop your local farmer’s market
Before leaving home, we made sure to bring our reusable water bottles, cups, utensils, and picnic blanket. (And if you’re getting some wine, don’t forget your wine opener).
We stopped by the Union Square Greenmarket, located in the heart of Manhattan. We decided to go for seasonal local strawberries, caramel popcorn, and a delicious zucchini bread made by some of the local farmer shops.
We had some extra time and stopped by the local greenery too, they carry an array of succulents and beautiful indoor plants.
Off we go! Time to head over to the park!
#2 Pick your favorite outdoor spot
Since it was a gorgeous sunny day out, we decided to head over to Domino Park, a 5-acre public park located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, by the East River water view facing stunning Manhattan skyline.
We started by laying our picnic blanket on a good spot we found. This time, we used a very special blanket, a gorgeous red and white quilt made out of repurposed fabric scraps that our talented Art Director, Chris Tuyay, sewed himself.

#3 Time to chill, eat, and enjoy our time…
#4 Of course, don’t forget to clean after yourselves when leaving the park.
We used our own bags to carry home any leftovers and made sure any waste was properly thrown away into the recyclable trash cans available right at the park.
