What To Do Now: Glamping In Tokyo

As humanity continues to evolve, there will always be an ongoing quest for new avenues of leisure and relaxation. Glamping itself isn’t completely new – it’s the fusion of two words “Glam” and “Camping,” so it’s pretty easy to grasp what this concept entails. Glamping is all about putting a luxury spin on an inherently rugged, back-to-nature pastime. However, when the Japanese get a hold of any cultural trend, they tend to take it to heights never before imagined. One might think that there would be no physical space available for glamping in a densely populated metropolis like Tokyo. The truth is quite the opposite. Sit back and read on below…

An Oasis only 2 miles from Ginza

The Wildmagic Third Park is located in Toyosu, which is only 2 miles away from Ginza. It was opened in 2012, and the 4-acre space is conveniently situated right in front of the Shin-Toyosu station. Here, glampers can enjoy delicious BBQ treats and gaze at the beautiful skyline that makes up the heart of Tokyo. You don’t even have to pack any supplies. Everything is ready and waiting for you: tents, grilling accouterment and a wide assortment of dining options.

What really stands out is the impeccable focus on the park’s overall décor. The tents possess a luxe ambience, and an air of opulence is conveyed by the expensive sofas and ornate chandeliers. The grills used are made by Weber; because only the top of the line will do. If you end up over-charring your food, you really can’t blame the equipment. Some glampers even go all out and decorate their tents with festive garlands and intricate adornments. If you’re in the mood for it, there is also the option of blasting off some fireworks after dinner.

In addition to all the cuisine choices, guests are also welcome to bring their own foods. Park favorites include Ahijo, Paella, Manila clam (Vongole) steamed with sake, Acqua pazza and Meunière. You might even find groups grilling fresh seafood like lobster and tuna. Another Japanese BBQ cuisine staple that is very popular here is fried noodle yakisoba.

At night, it becomes obvious why people are fascinated by the Third Park. The beautiful sunset on a nice day serves as an immaculate appetizer, and the mesmerizing view after sunset is an unforgettable main dish. The scenery and vistas here are truly breathtaking. On a clear night, the skyscrapers of Tokyo take on the form of luminous celestial trees on the horizon.

You’ll even be able to see the Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree, signature towers in the capital city. After chatting with the owner, we discovered the main attraction of glamping is simply this: people want to enjoy a special experience that’s an escape from the norm. It’s a popular date-night spot, and there are several couples who got married after proposals were made in these lavish tents. The Third Park is also a popular location for anniversary celebrations, reunions and quiet, old-fashioned family time.

There are rumors going around that this park site might be usurped by new land developments for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in 2020. So if you happen to be in Tokyo in the near future, be sure to have the Third Park on your list; it might not be around forever.
