Sweet Valentine: Romantic Fireplace Date Spots

Picking the perfect spot for date night is hard enough without adding the pressure of a holiday. What kind of atmosphere do you want? Is it dinner or just drinks? How dressed up is the other person expecting to get? Fireplaces are synonymous with winter and romance, so it’s fortunate that February 14, also known as Valentine’s Day, falls during the colder months. It also makes it a little easier to narrow down where you want to treat your significant other. The distinct aroma, warmth and crackling make a fire the perfect spot to share a glass of wine or a few small plates. Unfortunately, most New Yorkers don’t have the luxury of having a hearth blazing in their apartments.

So that leaves the option of getting bundled up and venturing out to set that romantic mood. We rounded up the best bars in New York City with fireplaces to heat up your Valentine’s Day. From luxurious views to a hidden speakeasy, every couple can find something that fits their style.

The Back Room

Backroom-2

One of only two speakeasies that exists and operates today, The Back Room is a classic from the 1920’s that welcomed actors and even gangsters. Guests sip cocktails and wine out of teacups and bottled beer out of paper bags while being surrounded by vintage decor. The main sitting area boasts a roaring fireplace that adds to the ambiance of the room. The Back Room has a unique policy- they do not allow real fur, including fur collars. Seating is first come, first serve but if you are a group of 6+, feel free to call to reserve a table.

Schoolbred’s

Shoolbreds_01

For a more cultured evening, head to the East Village to visit Shoolbred’s. Paying homage to co-owner William Ivey Long’s great grandfather and Scottish roots, Shoolbred’s features a lengthy beverage menu that includes single malt scotches, Scottish beers and their personalized Hot Toddy (blended scotch, green tea, fresh orange, and honey). Club chairs are nestled next to the fireplace for optimum comfort. The food menu complements the cozy ambiance with mac & cheese served on a cast iron skillet, deviled eggs and a seasoned, juicy burger topped with a fried egg.
